罗培慈教授列出下列五种应时而生、影响力最大的译本，称之为五大转世。
按照时间顺序分别是：
一、伊文思，《西藏的死书或中有阶段的死后经验》（WalterEvaibetanBookoftheDeadortheAfter-DeathExperieheBardoPlane，agtoLamaKaziDa'sEnglishRendering，1927）。
二、TimothyLeary等，《迷幻经验：据〈西藏死亡书〉而作的指南》（TimothyLeary，RalphMetzner，andRichardAlpert，ThePsychedeliualBasedoanBookoftheDead，Se.J.：CitadelPress，1964；此书德文译版：PsychedelischeErfahrungen：EinHandbuageoteerdam，1975）。
三、仲巴活佛等，《西藏死亡书》（Ch?gyamTrungpaandFran-cestle，TheTibetanBookoftheDead，Boulder：Shambhala，1975）。
四、索甲活佛，《西藏生死书》（SogyalRianBookofLivingariey&AndreerSanFrancisco，1992）。
五、Thurman译，《西藏死亡书》（RobertA.F.ThurmaanBookoftheDead，1994）。
除此之外，尚有许多次一等重要的译本，例如：
一、霍普金斯等译注，《藏传佛教中的死亡、中有和再生》（Death，Iate，ahianBuddhism，entaryandtranslationbyLatiRinpodJeffeyHopkins，IthaowLionPublis，1979，1985）。
二、罗珠喇嘛，《中有教法：死亡与再生之路》（LamaLodroe，BardoTeags：theWayofDeathahaowLionPublis，1982，1987）。
三、沐林，《死与死亡过程：西藏传统》（GlennH.MullihandDyianTradition，IthaowLionPublis，1986）。
四、柯恩，《西藏死亡书：死后大解脱》（TheTibetanBookoftheDead：TheGreatLiberatioh），此为日本NHK、法国Mistral电影公司、加拿大国家电影局（TheNationalFilmBoardofada）联合摄制的解释中有教法的录像片。
五、第十四世达赖喇嘛，《生之喜乐和平静之死》（TheJoyofLivingandDyinginPeace，byHisHoliheDalaiLamaofTibet，HarperSanFrancisco，1997）。
六、Jeaallie，《朗诵的西藏死亡书》（TheTibetanBookoftheDeadfAloud，Berkeley，1998）。
七、StephenHodge等，《图解西藏死亡书：新译与评注》（StepheinBoard，StephaheIllustratedTibetanBookoftheDead：Aranslationwithentary，SterlingPubli，1999）。
此外，有四种德文的《西藏死亡书》的翻译、研究著作也值得一提，它们是：
一、劳夫，《西藏死亡书之秘密教义：冥界和死后的迁移，东西比较和心理学释论》（DetlefIngoLauf，Geheimlehretibetisbuecher，JeseitsweltenundWandluod，EilicherVergleichmitpsyK：AurumVerlag，1975；此书的英译本为SecretDoesoftheTibetanBooksoftheDead，translatedbyGrahamParkes，Boulder&London：Shambhala，1977）。
二、达吉，《西藏死亡书》（EraDargay，DastibetischeBuchderToter，Bern-Mün，1977）。
&erMichaelBack，《佛教的冥界旅游：所谓〈西藏死亡书〉的历史语言学研究》（Eiisseitsreise，dassogeeer“ausphilologischerSicht，Wiesbaden：Harrassowitz，1979）。
四、ErhardMeier，《西藏死亡书中的灵魂之路指南》（WeisungenfürdenWegderSeeleausdemtibetisbuch，Herderbuecherei，1987）。
