Bythistimetheotherfairwomanhaddrawnnear,andshehelad.“Ihavenothingtopromiseyou,”
saidshe,“savethatwhichyoushallwinwithyourth.TheroaduponwhichIwouldleadyouisunevenandhard,andyahill,aomanyavalleyandquagmire.Theviewswhichyouwillsometimesgetfromthehilltlorious,butthedeepvalleysaredark,afromthemistoilsome.heroadleadstothegreenmountainsofendlessfame,whichyouseefarawayonthehorizobereachedwithoutlabor;infact,thereisnthatmustoil.Ifyouwouldhavefruitsandflowers,youmustplantthemahem;ifyouwouldgaintheloveofyourfellowmen,youmustlovethemahem;ifyouwouldenjoythefavorofheaven,youmustmakeyourselfworthyofthatfavor;ifyouwouldhaveeternalfame,youmustnotsthehardroadthatleadstoit.”
